Summer holidays are here at last. Wealden’s free Summer Activity days are taking place near you, and the emphasis is on keeping active.
Events include sports taster sessions, arts and crafts, team games and tasty fun cooking with the Community Chef.
“With today’s children spending longer in front of screens – whether on the computer, the smart phone or TV set – than previous generations, it’s important to highlight the benefits of regular physical activity,” said Councillor Claire Dowling, Cabinet member for Public Health & Community Safety. “Through our Summer Activity Days, we are providing youngsters with opportunities to have fun and giving them ideas about what else can be done over the long summer holidays.”
The dates and venues for Summer Activity Days are:
Wednesday 2 August 10 am – 2pm
Goldsmiths Recreation Ground, Eridge Road, Crowborough TN6 2TN.
Friday 4 August 10 am – 2pm
Wannock Road Recreation Ground, Polegate BN26 5JG.
Wednesday 9 August 10 am – 2pm
Sheepsetting Lane Recreation Ground, Heathfield TN21 0XG.
Friday 11 August 10am – 2pm
Maurice Thornton Playing Fields,Vega Close, Hailsham BN27 2JZ
Wednesday 16 August 10am – 2pm
West Park Recreation Ground, Markland Way, Uckfield TN22 2DE.
Don’t forget – under 10’s must be accompanied by an adult. Feel free to bring a picnic and stay until 2pm. Summer Activity Days take place in fresh air, making the most of local recreation grounds and open spaces.
Throughout summer of 2017, events taking place up and down the country as part of Play Day 2017, emphasising the importance of organised play in children’s lives both for the social development and the physical health of our future generations.
• Healthy growth and development including being a healthy weight and reducing the risk of disease like diabetes or cancer later in life.
• Building strong hearts, muscles and bones.
• Learning fundamental movement skills.
• Improved movement, balance, coordination and reaction time.
