Becoming as a school governor is one of the most popular volunteering activities in the country and is an effective way to make a difference to children’s life-chances and those of future generations. Volunteering as a school governor is hugely rewarding and makes a profound difference to the work of schools. Governors oversee the school’s management, performance, and strategy, and are accountable to pupils, parents, and the county council for school standards.
Willingdon Community Primary School are looking for individuals committed to wanting the best for young children and prepared to offer a few hours a month as a Co-opted Governor at our school. You don’t need previous experience as we provide plenty of training and support, and we are seeking a wide range of skills and interests. Benefits include:
• Chance to develop additional skills, e.g. financial monitoring and strategic planning
• Obtaining leadership and board-level experience
• Chance to see how the big decisions affecting a school are made
Governors are appointed for a 4-year term and the Governing Board meets 6 times a year, on Thursdays from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm. Preparation for meetings includes reading papers and preparing questions for senior leaders. Governors are encouraged to focus on specific aspects such as finance, safeguarding, or a curriculum area, and are expected to carry out monitoring visits to the school three times a year.
