St Andrew’s Church Jevington

St Andrew’s Church Jevington

St Andrews, Jevington is built from local flint interspersed with green sandstone, and has clear evidence of its Saxon origin.

The oldest part of the church is the tower which dates from some 150 years before the Conquest, c900 -950 AD. At that time the church served the secondary purpose of a refuge for local people when their land and villages were subject to Viking raids. St Andrews tower is a typical example of a defensive tower of the time.

‘Teas in the Tower’ Saturday 2nd July, Saturday 6th August, Saturday 27th August, Saturday 17th September.

Between 11am and 4.30pm ladies in the church will be serving tea/coffee and delicious homemade cakes and savouries to all walkers and visitors to the church. An opportunity to take a break on a walk across the Downs and enjoy refreshments in this tranquil spot.
